Your Sweet Inspiration

Posted on: August 8, 2014

A 'stair' of booksThe Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction organisers ran a poll from May 2014 to find out which novel written by a woman had had the greatest influence on women readers. The readers who were surveyed were selected as being influential women themselves; ranging from Jennifer Saunders, Sandi Toksvig to Kate Mosse. Discover more about the women selected on the #ThisBook website.

They ran the poll using the hashtag #ThisBook on Twitter. Top of the list was the ever popular Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird and with The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood in second place followed by Jane Eyre by Chalotte Bronte.

Find out what else is on the list to start your summer reading on the Bailey’s Women’s Prize for Fiction’s #ThisBook Campaign page.

To link up with the top three we have two of these on DVD for loan through our library:

To Kill a Mocking Bird directed by Robert Mulligan and starring Gregory Peck and John Megna

Jane Eyre directed by Susanna White starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens

Our lucky Access to Higher Education Humanities and Social Science students are set to read Jane Eyre this coming academic year 2014/15.
