It’s 100 today to the start of the London Olympics Games. But did you also know that part of the celebrations includes a Cultural Olympiad?

Visit the London Festival 2012 page to find out about events happening to mark the Olympics. These include art, music, plays, dance and much more. It runs from 21 June to 9 September. You can search by artist and venue.

Our staff and students like to donate DVDs and books they no longer want or wish to share with others.

Over the past fortnight we’ve added a few new ones to our collection:

  1. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
  2. About Schmidt
  3. Lawrence of Arabia
  4. Wuthering Heights

Follow the links on each of these to reviews on the Internet Movie Database to help you choose which ones you would like to borrow.

Our students are all busily completing the Six Book  Challenge.

It’s the first year that we have offered it to students. One of the things that students ask us is what counts as one of the six books. The Reading Agency’s website explains that it’s not just books that count – you could use poems, articles from magazines or newspapers.

Last week one of our students asked about positive affirmations that she was using as part of one of her courses. These can count too.

Find a Read on the Reading Agency’s website will help you find material by genre and at a level to suit you. It also suggests magazines and newspapers to read – as well as audio material and ebooks.

Over the Easter break we’ve placed all the ebooks you can use on ebrary into our Heritage library catalogue.

This means that you can use the catalogue as your first port of call to look for ebooks produced by ebrary and Dawsonera.

When you search for an ebook on the library catalogue you then get not only the cover of the ebook but also a link to the actual ebook itself. You will need to use your OpenAthens username and password to use the ebook to make notes, highlight text and print or save material.

Here’s a taster for you:
